Don’t Forget to Educate Your Employees!
Open enrollment season is once again upon us for many plans. While educating employees about their benefits often occurs year-round, it is especially important during open enrollment when employees are deciding which benefits to choose for the upcoming year.
Educating employees about their benefits can take many forms. Some of the most common ways employers choose to share information about benefits include:
- Printed materials such as brochures, flyers and post cards
- Electronic documents that can be shared via email or a company intranet
- In person opportunities like benefit fairs, employee meetings and one-on-one meetings with Human Resources (HR) or Benefits Representatives
While each of these types of employee communication has its pros and cons, it is important to keep in mind the employee population when deciding what channel will work best to provide employees with the information they need. While some employers may find that mass emails work well, others may have more success with mandatory employee meetings.
Providing employees with effective communications about their benefits not only helps employees make informed decisions, but can also lead to greater participation in the various benefits offered.
